Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Tokyo: Toyota Alvark (#2) and Hitachi Sunrockers (#6). Toyota Alvark (14-6) crushed visiting Hitachi Sunrockers (4-16) by 27 points 88-61. They outrebounded Hitachi Sunrockers 39-27 including 29 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 16 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Philip Ricci (202-80, college: Oregon St.) accounted for 15 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Four Toyota Alvark players scored in double figures. American forward Darius Rice (208-82, college: Miami, FL) came up with 21 points and 5 rebounds and the former international guard Kenta Hirose (193-85) added 4 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Hitachi Sunrockers in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyota Alvark have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 14-6 record having four points less than leader Aishin SH. Hitachi Sunrockers lost eighth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with 16 games lost. They share it with Chiba Jets and Kumamoto V.. Toyota Alvark will play against Tsukuba R. (#5) on the road in the next round. Hitachi Sunrockers will play against the league's leader Aishin Sea Horses in Kariya and hope to get back on the winning track.
