A very close game took place in Ashdod between Ironi Nes-Ziona and Maccabi Ashdod. Second ranked Ironi Nes-Ziona (6-3) got a very close victory on the road over 12th ranked Maccabi Ashdod (2-7). Ironi Nes-Ziona managed to escape with a 2-point win 103-101 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Ironi Nes-Ziona outrebounded Maccabi Ashdod 53-34 including a 37-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Diamon Simpson (201-87, college: St.Mary's, CA) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 20 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Tyler Honeycutt (203-90, college: UCLA) chipped in a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Kenny Hayes (188-87, college: Miami, OH, agency: Priority Sports) who recorded 21 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and naturalized American point guard Zack Rosen (185-89, college: Pennsylvania) added 25 points and 5 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ironi Nes-Ziona keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Hapoel J-M and Maccabi Haifa. Loser Maccabi Ashdod stay at the bottom place with seven games lost. Ironi Nes-Ziona will meet at home Bnei Hasharon (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Maccabi Ashdod will play against Galil Gilboa in Rosh Pina and hope to secure a win.
