There was a minor upset when one of their biggest challengers Ravenna (6-4) was defeated at home by eighth ranked Agrigento (6-4) 86-81 on Sunday. Agrigento made 38-of-42 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game, while Ravenna only scored twenty one points from the stripe. Strangely Ravenna outrebounded Agrigento 39-25 including 29 on the defensive glass. Ravenna was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Kwame Vaughn (190-90, college: CS Fullerton) scored 24 points to lead the charge for the winners and center Manuele Mocavero (203-80) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American guard Adam Sollazzo (198-90, college: E.Tenn.St.) responded with 19 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) and power forward Francesco Amoni (201-84) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Agrigento have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Ravenna. Agrigento will face Roseto (#9) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Ravenna will play against the league's second-placed Casalpusterlengo (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
