Regular Season Round 16: Korihait - Lapua 97-89

There was a minor upset in Uusikaupunki where 9th ranked Lapuan Korikobrat (2-11) was defeated by eleventh ranked UU-Korihait (3-11) 97-89 on Wednesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-20. But Lapuan Korikobrat won second period 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. UU-Korihait dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Lapuan Korikobrat's 38 and made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Mikko Jalonen (186-82) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and American forward James Padgett (203-91, college: Maryland) who added 16 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Five UU-Korihait players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Lawrence Kinnard (203-86, college: UAB) responded with 33 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Jesse Perry (200-89, college: Arizona, agency: Bluestar Sports Management) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds. UU-Korihait moved-up to ninth place, which they share with LrNMKY. Lapuan Korikobrat at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with 11 games lost. UU-Korihait is looking forward to face higher ranked KTP-Basket (#3) in Kotka in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Lapuan Korikobrat will play on the road against Tampereen Pyrinto (#4) and is hoping to win this game.
