Regular Season Round 17: Denain - Le Portel 76-93

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Denain Voltaire (8-9) was defeated at home by third ranked Le Portel (11-6) 93-76. The game was mostly controlled by Le Portel. Denain Voltaire was better in second period 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Le Portel made 16-of-17 charity shots (94.1 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Le Portel especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 56.3 percentage. American forward Wendell McKines (198-88, college: N.Mexico St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). His fellow American import forward Charles Jackson (203-87, college: Hawaii-Pacific, agency: Court Side) contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. American point guard Maurice Acker (176-87, college: Marquette) answered with 22 points and guard Pierric Poupet (191-84) added 14 points in the effort for Denain Voltaire. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Denain Voltaire's coach let to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Le Portel have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Evreux. Denain Voltaire at the other side dropped to the tenth position with nine games lost. Le Portel's next round opponent will be Nantes (#13) at home which should be an easy win for them. Denain Voltaire will play against Saint-Quentin and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
