Regular Season Round 17: Nitra - Prievidza 69-70

The most exciting game of round 17 in the Extraliga took place in Nitra. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of second-ranked Nitra (11-4) to fourth ranked Prievidza (9-6) 70-69 on Wednesday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-15. But Nitra won second period 20-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Nitra outrebounded Prievidza 41-27 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. American point guard Corey Jefferson (181-85, college: Texas St.) saved the victory by scoring 17 points and 6 rebounds. British swingman Paul Guede (195-87, college: Portland St., agency: Interperformances) contributed with 12 points for the winners. Jefferson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Elton Frazier (198-88, college: Canisius) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds and Slovenian center Salih Nuhanovic (210-82) added 22 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Nitra. Prievidza moved-up to third place, which they share with Rieker KN. Nitra at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. Prievidza is looking forward to face Handlova (#6) at home in the next round. Nitra will play against Iskra Svit (#5) and is hoping to win this game.
