Regular Season Round 9: Stjarnan - Valur 90-80

Everything went according to plan when fifth ranked Stjarnan (5-4) beat at home bottom-ranked Valur (1-8) 90-80. The game was mostly controlled by Stjarnan. Valur was better in third quarter 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Stjarnan brought some defensive toughness making 10 blocks. American forward Junior Hairston (203-84, college: Towson, agency: KMG Sports Management) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points, 22 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 blocks for the winning side and international point guard Justin Shouse (181-81, college: Mercyhurst) accounted for 20 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Four Stjarnan players scored in double figures. American forward Chris Woods (195-89, college: Pfeiffer) came up with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Benedikt Blondal (188-93) added 24 points respectively for Valur in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Stjarnan. They maintain fifth place with 5-4 record, which they share with Haukar. Valur lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Stjarnan will play against KFI (#9) in Isafjordur in the next round. Valur's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Reykjavik KR.
