No shocking result in a game in Veracruz where fourth ranked Halcones Rojos (14-5) defeated 12th ranked Gigantes (4-13) 88-71 on Thursday. The game without a history. Halcones Rojos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Strangely Gigantes outrebounded Halcones Rojos 34-0 including a 24- advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard LeRoy Hickerson (196-82, college: Cumberlands) who scored 15 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international forward Jesus Gonzalez (195-86) chipped in 25 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Four Halcones Rojos players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Phillip Bernard who recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and American forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Halcones Rojos have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. Gigantes at the other side keep the twelfth position with 13 games lost. Halcones Rojos will face Abejas (#4) in Guanajuato in the next round. Gigantes will play on the road against Halcones UV Xalapa (#7) and hope to win that game.
