Regular Season Round 9: Wildcats - Breakers 95-91

NBL top team - Perth Wildcats (11-1) added another victory to their record on Friday. This time they beat sixth ranked New Zealand Breakers (4-8) 95-91. New Zealand Breakers trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 26-18 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 91-95 at the end of the game. New Zealand Breakers were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American swingman James Ennis (201-90, college: Long Beach St.) stepped up and scored 31 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Jermaine Beal (191-87, college: Vanderbilt) chipped in 30 points. The best for the losing side was American power forward Gary Wilkinson (204-82, college: Utah St.) with 19 points and 8 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and Fijian-New Zealand forward Mika Vukona (198-82) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Five New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. Perth Wildcats have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 11-1 record. Defending champion New Zealand Breakers keep the sixth position with eight games lost. Perth Wildcats will face again New Zealand Breakers (#6) in Auckland in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
