Regular Season Round 9: Njardvik - IR 101-70
Date: December 6, 2013
Very predictable result when fourth ranked Njardvik (6-3) smashed at home 9th ranked IR (2-7) 101-70. It looked good early as IR took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Njardvik had a 34-21 second period charge getting the lead and IR was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 70-101. Njardvik dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to IR's 32. Njardvik forced 19 IR turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. International point guard Elvar Fridriksson (180-94) nailed 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and the former international Logi Gunnarsson (190-81) accounted for 24 points. point guard Matthias Sigurdarson (185-94, college: Flagler) came up with 18 points and 7 assists and point guard Bjorgvin Rikhardsson (191-93) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively for IR in the defeat. Four IR players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Njardvik moved-up to third place, which they share with Grindavik. IR lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with seven games lost. They share it with Skallagrimur and KFI. Njardvik will play against Snaefell (#8) in Stykkisholmur in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. IR will play at home against the league's second-placed Keflavik and hopes to get back on the winning track.
