Regular Season Round 9: Thor Thorl - Haukar 76-104
Date: December 6, 2013
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Thorlakshofn where 6th ranked Thor Thorl (5-5) was rolled over by seventh ranked Haukar (5-4) 104-76. The game without a history. Haukar led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Thor Thorl's 48. Haukar players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Thor Thorl's players. American forward Terrence Watson (200-87, college: Ball St.) nailed a double-double by scoring 28 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and guard Haukur Oskarsson (194-91) accounted for 18 points and 5 assists. The former international center Ragnar Nathanaelsson (218-91) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and American swingman Mike Cook (193-84, college: Pittsburgh) added 16 points respectively for Thor Thorl in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Haukar moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Stjarnan. Thor Thorl at the other side dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Haukar will play against Skallagrimur (#11) in Borgarnes in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Thor Thorl will play on the road against Grindavik (#3) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
