Regular Season Round 22: Halc.Xalapa - Gigantes 89-77

No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Halcones UV Xalapa (9-7) defeated at home 12th ranked Gigantes (4-14) 89-77 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Halcones UV Xalapa. Gigantes managed to win third quarter 24-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Gigantes 45-31 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. International guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez (185-86, college: W.Kentucky) scored 26 points and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international swingman Jovan Harris (191-81, college: USF) chipped in 14 points during the contest. At the losing side American forward Derek Thomas (193-84, college: Appalachian St.) responded with 24 points and 5 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Four Gigantes players scored in double figures. Halcones UV Xalapa maintains seventh position with 9-7 record. Gigantes lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth place with 14 games lost. Halcones UV Xalapa will meet higher ranked Halcones Rojos (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Gigantes will play against Angeles (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
