Regular Season Round 19: Sendai 89ers - Aomori Watts 78-72
Date: December 7, 2013
There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Sendai 89ers (8-9) won against at home 6th ranked Aomori Watts (8-9) 78-72 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 19-14. But Aomori Watts won second period 20-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American guard Wendell Wendell (198-84, college: UNLV) fired 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. His fellow American import Travele Travel (203-88, college: Texas Southern) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Nigerian forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Guyanese-American forward Gordon Klaiber (206-83, college: Fair Dickinson) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Aomori Watts' coach Shiko Kotobuki rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Sendai 89ers. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Aomori Watts and Shiga L-Stars. Sendai 89ers will face again Aomori Watts (#7) in the next round.
