Regular Season Round 9: Tigers - Breakers 84-82

The most exciting game of round 9 in the NBL took place in Melbourne. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked New Zealand Breakers (4-8) to fifth ranked Melbourne Tigers (5-6) 84-82 on Sunday evening. The hosts trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 16-11 charge, which allowed them to win the game. American guard Mustapha Farrakhan (193-88, college: Virginia) stepped up and scored 20 points and 6 assists (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and the former international forward Mark Worthington (203-83, college: Metro St.) chipped in 21 points. The best for the losing side was American power forward Gary Wilkinson (204-82, college: Utah St.) with 20 points and 6 rebounds and New Zealand swingman Thomas Abercrombie (198-87, college: Washington St., agency: Priority Sports) scored 18 points. Melbourne Tigers moved-up to fourth place. Defending champion New Zealand Breakers keep the sixth position with eight games lost. Melbourne Tigers are looking forward to face Townsville Crocodiles (#5) in Wulguru in the next round. New Zealand Breakers will play at home against the league's leader Perth Wildcats and are hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
