Regular Season Round 11: Qingdao E. - Guangsha L. 102-105

A very close game took place in Qingdao between Zhejiang Guangsha Lions and Qingdao Eagles. Ninth ranked Zhejiang Guangsha Lions (6-5) got a very close victory on the road over 17th ranked Qingdao Eagles (2-9). Zhejiang Guangsha Lions managed to escape with a 3-point win 105-102 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests trailed by 8 points after three quarters before their 35-24 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Zhejiang Guangsha Lions made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Qingdao Eagles turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Jonathan Gibson (188-87, college: N.Mexico St., agency: Three Eye Sports) who led the winners and scored 38 points (!!!) and 4 assists (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!). His fellow American import center Chris Johnson (210-85, college: LSU) accounted for 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winning side. Zhejiang Guangsha Lions' coach Fei Wang used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Palestinian center Sani Sakakini (204-88) came up with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists and Nigerian-American point guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: CS Fullerton) added 20 points and 7 assists respectively for Qingdao Eagles in the defeat. Four Qingdao Eagles players scored in double figures. Zhejiang Guangsha Lions moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Qingdao Eagles dropped to the sixteenth position with nine games lost. They share it with Sichuan BW. Zhejiang Guangsha Lions will meet Jiangsu Dragons (#11) in the next round. Qingdao Eagles will play against DongGuan Leopards (#8) and hope to secure a win.
