Regular Season Round 12: ToPo - Kerava 68-49

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Torpan Pojat (8-1) crushed 7th ranked Kerava Energia Team (3-8) in Helsinki 68-49. It looked good early as Kerava Energia Team took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Torpan Pojat had a 14-10 second period charge getting the lead and Kerava Energia Team was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 49-68. Torpan Pojat dominated on the defensive end, holding Kerava Energia Team to just 5 points in third quarter. They made 17-of-20 charity shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Torpan Pojat forced 24 Kerava Energia Team turnovers and outrebounded them 53-40 including a 22-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Torpan Pojat brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international power forward Niina Laaksonen (185-85) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points and 23 rebounds and American forward Ashlee Roberson (180-88, college: Texas Tech) who added 14 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Mollie Williams (187, college: Washington) with 10 points and 9 rebounds and guard Miina Lapila (166-95) scored 9 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Torpan Pojat have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 8-1 record having just three points less than leader Catz. Kerava Energia Team at the other side keeps the seventh place with eight games lost. Torpan Pojat will play against league's leader Catz Lappeenranta on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Kerava Energia Team will play against HoNsU (#4) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
