Regular Season Round 9: AV Cantu - JuveCaserta 84-82

A very close game took place in Cantu between Cantu and Juvecaserta. Fifth ranked Cantu (6-3) got a very close home victory over 11th ranked Juvecaserta (3-6). Cantu managed to escape with a 2-point win 84-82 on Sunday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 23-9 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Cantu looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Joe Ragland (182-89, college: Wichita St.) who scored 16 points and 5 assists. His fellow American import guard Michael Jenkins (191-86, college: Winthrop) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists. Five Cantu players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Jeff Brooks (203-89, college: Penn St.) who recorded 19 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and the former international Marco Mordente (192-79) added 13 points and 4 assists respectively. Cantu moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Virtus RM and Granarolo BO. Loser Juvecaserta dropped to the twelfth position with six games lost. They share it with Giorgo Tesi PT and Sutor MGR. Cantu will meet Cimberio Varese (#8) on the road in the next round. Juvecaserta will play against Granarolo BO (#4) and hope to secure a win.
