Regular Season Round 9: Panathinaikos - Ikaros 77-61

There was no surprise in Athens where 13th ranked Ikaros (2-7) was defeated by second ranked Panathinaikos (8-1) 77-61. The game was mostly controlled by Panathinaikos. Ikaros was better in fourth quarter 22-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. International forward Antonis Fotsis (209-81) nailed 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side and the former international center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-84) accounted for 11 points and 7 rebounds. Panathinaikos' coach Argiris Pedoulakis allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Sotirios Manolopoulos (208-87) came up with 17 points and 5 rebounds and British power forward Ryan Richards (212-91, agency: Interperformances) added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Ikaros in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Panathinaikos. Defending champion maintains second place with 8-1 record behind leader Olympiacos. Ikaros lost their third game in a row. They keep the thirteenth position with seven games lost. Panathinaikos' next round opponent will be Kolossos (#12) in Rodou and are hoping to win another game. Ikaros will play at home against Ilysiakos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
