Regular Season Round 7: Shenyang - Shanghai 75-89

Bottom-ranked Shenyang Golden Lions (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 89-75 loss to third ranked Shanghai Octopus (6-1) in Dandong. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The guests were ahead by 4 points but lost the second period ending it with a 2-point deficit before their 27-11 run, which allowed them to win the game. Shanghai Octopus dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Shenyang Golden Lions' 44. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Sylvia Fowles (198-85, college: LSU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 49 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds. point guard Xiufeng Shi (178-87) contributed with 22 points for the winners. International forward Meng Li (185-95) answered with 36 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and the former international center Dan Liu (194-87) added 14 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Shenyang Golden Lions. The victory was the third consecutive win for Shanghai Octopus. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Beijing. Shenyang Golden Lions lost their sixth game in a row. They still closes the standings with seven games lost. They share the position with Yunnan. Shanghai Octopus will play against Shandong (#10) in Jinan in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Shenyang Golden Lions will play on the road against Bayi Kylin in Yinzhou and hope to get finally their first victory.
