Regular Season Round 8: B.Gais Neptune - Ballon Inter 83-80

Important game to mention about took place in Cork. Third ranked B.Gais Neptune (6-2) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Ballon Inter (3-5) 83-80 on Saturday evening. B.Gais Neptune dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Ballon Inter's 32. They outrebounded Ballon Inter 47-33 including a 35-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ballon Inter was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Darren Townes (201-86, college: Hofstra, agency: Blacktop Management) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds. Forward Ian McLoughlin (185-85) contributed with 28 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Lithuanian power forward Aurimas Statkus (201-81) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists and Lithuanian power forward Mindaugas Tamusauskas (203-83) added 21 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Ballon Inter. Four Ballon Inter players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. B.Gais Neptune have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 6-2 record behind leader UCC Demons. Ballon Inter at the other side keeps the sixth place with five games lost. They share the position with Belfast Star. B.Gais Neptune will play against DCU Saints (#5) in Dublin in the next round. Ballon Inter will play at home against Belfast Star and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
