Regular Season Round 8: Killester - UCC Demons 72-77

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Killester (7-1) in Dublin on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by UCC Demons (7-0) 77-72. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Killester. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 6-0 record before this meeting. UCC Demons made 18-of-18 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. They also forced 19 Killester turnovers. It was a great shooting night for UCC Demons especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 60.0 percentage. The best player for the winners was American forward Lehmon Colbert (198-88, college: Jacksonville) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Kyle Hosford (-89) chipped in 23 points and 4 assists. Grenadian forward Michael Bonaparte (196-82, college: Coll.of the Ozarks) produced 19 points and 6 rebounds and the former international point guard Isaac Westbrooks (189-85) added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Killester's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. UCC Demons have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Killester at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. UCC Demons are looking forward to face Moycullen (#9) in Galway in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Killester will play on the road against UL Eagles (#4) in Limerick and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
