No shocking result in a game when leader Gernika (7-0) won against at home 5th ranked ASEFA Estudiantes (4-3) 57-44 on Saturday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Gernika's pressure prevailed and they won that period 15-4 extending their advantage to 13 points. They dominated on the defensive end, holding ASEFA Estudiantes to just 4 points in fourth quarter. It was a great evening for American center Britany Miller (193-87, college: Florida St.) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 19 rebounds. Center Patricia Valiente (185-84, agency: Josep and Nicolas) helped adding 13 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side center Mariana Gonzalez (187-88) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and center Elena Diaz (188-92) scored 4 points and 7 rebounds. ASEFA Estudiantes' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Gernika. They keep a position of Group B leader, which they share with Alcobendas. Loser ASEFA Estudiantes dropped to the fourth place with three games lost. Gernika will face Segle XXI (#6) in Barcelona in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. ASEFA Estudiantes will play at home against IF Air Europa and hope to win that game.
