Very significant was Osorno Basq.'s (#4) 81-74 road victory against one of their biggest challengers Universidad de Concepcion. It looked good early as Universidad de Concepcion took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Osorno Basq. had a 18-13 second period charge getting the lead and Universidad de Concepcion was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 74-81. Osorno Basq. forced 20 Universidad de Concepcion turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) notched 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and international power forward Renato Vera (199-87) supported him with 18 points. Four Osorno Basq. players scored in double figures. Osorno Basq.'s coach Manuel Cordoba allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 24 points and 8 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) by the former international guard Eduardo Marechal (186-85) did not help to save the game for Universidad de Concepcion. American center Terrell Taylor (203-81, college: Virginia Tech) added 22 points and 11 rebounds for lost side. Osorno Basq. (6-4) have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Universidad de Concepcion at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with CD Puerto Varas and Los Leones. Osorno Basq. will play against AB Ancud (#8) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Universidad de Concepcion will play against CD Puerto Varas (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
