Regular Season Round 10: Brasilia - Palmeiras 71-77

Rather predictable result when eighth ranked Palmeiras (5-5) won against on the road 10th ranked Brasilia (3-4) 77-71 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-17. But Brasilia won second period 17-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Palmeiras dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Brasilia's 28. Quite impressive performance for guard Arlindo Neto (187-86) who helped to win the game recording 20 points. American Antwaine Wiggins (200-88, college: Charleston, agency: Two Points) contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. International Guilherme Giovannoni (204-80, agency: Interperformances) replied with 20 points and 8 rebounds and the former international point guard Welington Dos Santos (185-81) added 15 points and 5 assists in the effort for Brasilia. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Palmeiras moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Universo/Goiania and Uberlandia. Defending champion Brasilia keeps the tenth position with four games lost. Palmeiras will have a break next round. Brasilia will play on the road against Paulistano (#4) in Sao Paolo and hope to win that game.
