Very expected game in Lugo where 6th ranked Cafe Barco (3-4) was defeated by second ranked Maquinaria Ensino (6-1) 74-57 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Maquinaria Ensino. Cafe Barco was better in third quarter 16-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maquinaria Ensino made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 25 Cafe Barco turnovers. It was a great evening for power forward Veronica Matoso (185-88, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Mireia Navarrete (184-80) helped adding 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Maquinaria Ensino players scored in double figures. Maquinaria Ensino's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side American-Mexican swingman Alexis Castro (180-86, college: Vermont) responded with 25 points and 8 rebounds and swingman Maria Bolonio (180-85) scored 16 points and 4 steals. The victory was the third consecutive win for Maquinaria Ensino. They keep a position of Group A leader, which they share with Al-Qazeres and Ferrol. Cafe Barco lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the seventh place with four games lost. Maquinaria Ensino will face Pabellon Ourense (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cafe Barco will play against Cortegada and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
