Real Celta Vigo (#4) was upset in Pontevedra by eighth ranked Arxil Pontevedra 60-50. The game was mostly controlled by Arxil Pontevedra. Real Celta Vigo was better in third quarter 12-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Real Celta Vigo to just 6 points in second quarter. Real Celta Vigo was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for Jamaican center Tajay Ashmeade (190-89, college: Seton Hall) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds. Forward Maria Lago accounted for 20 points for the winning side. Swingman Marta Canella (178-95) came up with 14 points and 6 rebounds and forward Maria Perez Araujo (184-97) added 11 points respectively for Real Celta Vigo in the defeat. Arxil Pontevedra (3-4) moved-up to seventh place in Group A, which they share with Cafe Barco. Real Celta Vigo at the other side keeps the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with ADBA and Aros Leon. Arxil Pontevedra will play against higher ranked Aros Leon (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Real Celta Vigo will play against Universidad de Valladolid and hopes to get back on the winning track.
