Date: December 15, 2013
An interesting game for DCU Mercy (6-1) which played road game in Waterford against one of their biggest challengers WIT Wildcats (5-3). Second ranked DCU Mercy managed to get a 4-point victory 67-63. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when DCU Mercy made 7 blocks. The winners were led by the former international forward Suzanne Maguire (183-75) who scored that evening 17 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Rachel Brittenham (175-91, college: Wofford) supported her with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four DCU Mercy players scored in double figures. Even 26 points and 4 assists by American guard Rachel Roberts (175-91, college: Villanova) did not help to save the game for WIT Wildcats. The former international center Niamh Mullally (180-84) added 12 points and 15 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. DCU Mercy have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 6-1 record behind leader UL Huskies. Loser WIT Wildcats dropped to the third place with three games lost. They share the position with Brunell. DCU Mercy will meet at home Ulster Rockets (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. WIT Wildcats will play against TM Hotel Cork (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
