Regular Season Round 10: Maccabi Hasharon - Elizur Ashkelon 79-90

There was no surprise when 14th ranked Hod Hasharon (1-9) was defeated at home by eleventh ranked Ironi Ashkelon (4-6) 90-79. The game was mostly controlled by Ironi Ashkelon. Hod Hasharon was better in fourth quarter 28-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ironi Ashkelon dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Hod Hasharon's 40. They outrebounded Hod Hasharon 34-23 including 27 on the defensive glass. Ironi Ashkelon players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. American forward Gregg Thondique (201-87, college: Virginia Union) notched a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort and international Raviv Pitshon (201-89) supported him with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Four Ironi Ashkelon players scored in double figures. Even 21 points and 7 rebounds by American power forward Louis Johnson (206-86, college: W.Illinois) did not help to save the game for Hod Hasharon. His fellow American import guard Anthony Fisher (191-86) added 20 points and 9 assists for lost side. Ironi Ashkelon moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Elitzur Ramla and Macc.B.Yaakov. Hod Hasharon at the other side stay at the bottom position with nine games lost. Ironi Ashkelon's next round opponent will be higher ranked Kiryat Tivon (#3) in Kiryat Tivon and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Hod Hasharon will play on the road against Ironi Ramat Gan (#9) and hope to win that game.
