Regular Season Round 11: Minas - Vivo/Franca 59-65
Date: December 19, 2013
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 11th ranked Minas (3-5) lost to twelfth ranked Vivo/Franca (4-6) in Belo Horizonte 59-65. It looked good early as Minas took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Vivo/Franca had a 17-10 second period charge getting the lead and Minas was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 59-65. Vivo/Franca forced 19 Minas turnovers and outrebounded them 36-25 including 26 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international center Paulo Prestes (210-88) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds. Argentinian point guard Juan Pablo Figueroa (184-86, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 5 points and 12 assists. The former international Betinho Nardi Duarte (195-88) produced 20 points and 6 rebounds and international point guard Elinho Corazza (193-89, college: Miami Dade CC) added 12 points and 7 assists respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Vivo/Franca moved-up to eleventh place. Minas at the other side dropped to the thirteenth position with five games lost. Vivo/Franca's next round opponent will be Espirito Santo (#16) in Vila Velha which should be theoretically an easy game. Minas will play at home against Unitri and hope to win that game.
