Regular Season Round 11: Maccabi Haifa - Hapoel J-M 75-82

Winner League top team - Hapoel Jerusalem (8-3) added another victory to their record on Friday. This time they beat fifth ranked Maccabi Haifa (6-5) 82-75. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 29-24. But Maccabi Haifa won second period 14-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Hapoel Jerusalem won last quarter 22-16. It was a quality performance for American point guard Derwin Kitchen (193-86, college: Florida St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. The former international Yotam Halperin (196-84) accounted for 16 points and 5 assists for the winning side. Four Hapoel Jerusalem players scored in double figures. American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (200-83, college: SE Illinois JC) came up with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American-Nigerian forward Ike Ofoegbu (205-85, college: SMU) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Maccabi Haifa in the defeat. Hapoel Jerusalem have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 8-3 record. Maccabi Haifa lost third consecutive game. Defending champion keeps the fifth position with five games lost. They share it with Hapoel Holon and Hapoel Eilat. Hapoel Jerusalem will meet bottom-ranked Maccabi Ashdod (#12) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Maccabi Haifa will play against GreenTops Netanya (#10) and hope to secure a win.
