Regular Season Round 20: Le Portel - Boulogne 73-78
Date: December 20, 2013
ProB top team - SO Maritime Boulogne (14-6) added another victory to their record. This time they beat seventh ranked Le Portel (11-9) 78-73. The guests were already 11 points ahead at halftime and as many as 17 after three quarters before a 33-21 last quarter charge of Le Portel cut the lead to 78-73 at the end of the game. SO Maritime Boulogne made 28-of-34 charity shots (82.4 percent) during the game, while Le Portel only scored twelve points from the stripe. Le Portel was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by naturalized Greek Angelo Tsagarakis (190-84) who scored that evening 24 points and American Deven Mitchell (196-84, agency: Interperformances) supported him with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Even 18 points by American guard Matthew Gibson (193-84) did not help to save the game for Le Portel. His fellow American import forward Charles Jackson (203-87, college: Hawaii-Pacific, agency: Court Side) added 12 points and 6 rebounds for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Le Portel's coach Eric Girard rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. SO Maritime Boulogne maintains first position with 14-6 record. Le Portel lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with nine games lost. They share the position with Denain. SO Maritime Boulogne will play against Poitiers (#12) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Le Portel will play against ALM Evreux (#3) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
