Regular Season Round 26: Gansos - Halc.Xalapa 69-84
Date: December 21, 2013
Very predictable result in Ciudad de Mexico where eighth ranked Halcones UV Xalapa (10-9) defeated bottom-ranked Gansos (1-23) 84-69. It looked good early as Gansos took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Halcones UV Xalapa had a 25-11 second period charge getting the lead and Gansos were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 69-84. It was a great shooting night for Halcones UV Xalapa especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Gansos' players. Gansos were plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international forward Noe Alonzo (200-83, college: Grand Canyon) notched 23 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international guard Pedro David Meza Rogel (186-85, college: Arizona W. CC) supported him with 18 points and 4 assists. Five Halcones UV Xalapa players scored in double figures. Even 25 points by American point guard Ryan McCoy (183-87, college: La-Lafayette) did not help to save the game for Gansos. His fellow American import CamRon Clay (203-82) added 10 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. Gansos' coach rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Halcones UV Xalapa maintains eighth position with 10-9 record. Gansos lost fifth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 23 lost games. Halcones UV Xalapa will play against Lechugueros (#10) in Leon in the next round. Gansos will play on the road against Angeles (#12) in Acapulco and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
