Very expected game in Belo Horizonte where 13th ranked Minas (3-6) was defeated by eighth ranked Unitri (6-5) 91-83 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 54-40 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Unitri made 30-of-38 free shots (78.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Minas turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Valtinho Silva (187-77) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 7 assists and American Robert Day (197-82, college: W.Oregon) who added 15 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was international point guard Elinho Corazza (193-89, college: Miami Dade CC) with 7 points and 12 assists and American-Jamaican swingman Brian Laing (195-85, college: Seton Hall, agency: Two Points) scored 15 points. Five Unitri and four Minas players scored in double figures. Minas' coach Carlos Romano rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Unitri moved-up to sixth place. Minas lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourteenth position with six games lost. Unitri will face higher ranked Sao Jose/Vinac (#5) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Minas will play against Universo/Goiania (#8) and hope to win that game.
