Regular Season Round 23: Wakayama T. - Toyota Alvark 63-81

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Wakayama. Second ranked Toyota Alvark faced second-ranked Wakayama T.. Guests from Tokyo (18-8) defeated host Wakayama T. (17-7) 81-63. The game without a history. Toyota Alvark led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Toyota Alvark outrebounded Wakayama T. 39-20 including 25 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Philip Ricci (202-80, college: Oregon St.) accounted for 20 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Toyota Alvark's coach Don Beck allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Michael Parker (202-81, college: Evergreen St.) came up with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks and swingman Shingo Utsumi (188-84) added 17 points respectively for Wakayama T. in the defeat. Defending champion maintains second place with 18-8 record having six points less than leader Aishin SH which they share with defeated Wakayama T. Newly promoted Wakayama T. keeps the second position with seven games lost. Toyota Alvark will have a break next round. Wakayama T. will play again at home against the league's second-placed Toyota Alvark and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
