Regular Season Round 26: Panteras - Gigantes 102-84

Not a big story in a game in Aguascalientes where 13th ranked Gigantes (6-15) were defeated by ninth ranked Panteras (10-13) 102-84. The game was mostly controlled by Panteras. Gigantes was better in fourth quarter 28-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great shooting night for Panteras especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Puerto Rican point guard Ricardo Melendez (179-83) notched 18 points and 5 assists to lead the effort and Dominican swingman Jorge Almanzar (193-76) supported him with 19 points and 4 assists. Panteras' coach Juan Cardona used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 21 points and 5 rebounds by Gerrick Griffin did not help to save the game for Gigantes. point guard Jesus Coronado (185-88) added 17 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Five Gigantes players scored in double figures. Panteras maintains ninth position with 10-13 record. Gigantes at the other side keep the thirteenth place with 15 games lost. Panteras will play against league's leader Halcones Rojos in Veracruz in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Gigantes will play at home against Fuerza Regia (#6) and hope to get back on the winning track.
