Regular Season Round 13: Nice - Villeneuve 60-76
Date: December 21, 2013
Very predictable result when third ranked Villeneuve D'Ascq (11-2) won against on the road bottom-ranked Nice (3-10) 76-60. It looked good early as Nice took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Villeneuve D'Ascq had a 25-13 second period charge getting the lead and Nice was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 60-76. Villeneuve D'Ascq dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Nice's 28. They outrebounded Nice 37-22 including a 29-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Mali center Djene Diawara (192-85) stepped up and scored 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and the former international Johanne Gomis (179-85) chipped in 12 points and 4 assists. Four Villeneuve D'Ascq players scored in double figures. At the losing side international point guard Kristen Sharp (175-81, college: Cincinnati) responded with 19 points (perfect behind the arc making all five shots) and forward Margaux Galliou-Loko (183-93) scored 16 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Villeneuve D'Ascq moved-up to second place, which they share with Lattes Montp. Newly promoted Nice dropped to the bottom position with ten games lost. They share it with Mondeville and Toulouse. Villeneuve D'Ascq will play against Basket Landes (#5) in Mont de Marsan in the next round.
