Regular Season Round 24: Wakayama T. - Toyota Alvark 61-91

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Wakayama. Second ranked Toyota Alvark faced second-best Wakayama T.. Guests from Tokyo (19-8) smashed host Wakayama T. (17-8) 91-61. The game without a history. Toyota Alvark led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Wakayama T.'s 40. Toyota Alvark forced 19 Wakayama T. turnovers. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals and forward Philip Ricci (202-80, college: Oregon St.) who added 22 points during the contest. Four Toyota Alvark players scored in double figures. Toyota Alvark's coach Don Beck felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was power forward Rick Rickert (211-83, college: Minnesota, agency: SportsTalent) with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and forward Michael Parker (202-81, college: Evergreen St.) scored 7 points and 10 rebounds. Defending champion maintains second position with 19-8 record having four points less than leader Aishin SH which they share with defeated Wakayama T. Wakayama T. lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the second place with eight games lost. Toyota Alvark will meet at home Hyogo S. (#4) in the next round. Wakayama T. will play against the league's leader Toshiba Thunders in Kanagawa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
