Regular Season Round 16: Shanghai S. - TianJin S. 101-104

Date: December 22, 2013
A very interesting game took place in Shanghai. It ended with only three-point home defeat of higher ranked Shanghai Sharks (11-5) to tenth ranked TianJin Steel (9-7) 104-101 on Sunday evening. Shanghai Sharks were ahead by 5 points at the halftime before a 31-21 third quarter run of TianJin Steel. They outrebounded Shanghai Sharks 49-34 including 16 on the offensive glass. 27 personal fouls committed by Shanghai Sharks helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by American forward Shelden Williams (206-83, college: Duke) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds and the other American import point guard Sebastian Telfair (183-85) supported him with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Five TianJin Steel players scored in double figures. TianJin Steel's coach Jian Zhang allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 29 points and 7 rebounds by international point guard Wei Liu (190-80) did not help to save the game for Shanghai Sharks. American guard Quincy Douby (190-84, college: Rutgers) added 25 points and 6 assists for lost side. TianJin Steel moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Zhejiang CB and Fujian QB. Shanghai Sharks at the other side keep the fourth position with five games lost. TianJin Steel's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Xinjiang Flying Tige in Urumqi and it may be quite challenging game. Shanghai Sharks will play on the road against Beijing Ducks and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
