Regular Season Round 24: Niigata Albirex - Oita H.Devils 70-57

The game between Top Four teams took place in Niigata. Third ranked host Niigata Albirex (17-7) defeated one of their biggest challengers Oita Heat Devils (12-10) 70-57. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Niigata Albirex's pressure prevailed and they won that period 23-13 extending their advantage to 13 points. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. The winners were led by Nigerian-American forward Suleiman Braimoh (203-89, college: Rice) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks and American guard Nile Murry (193-83, college: TCU) supported him with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Niigata Albirex's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) by American swingman Gabriel McCulley (200-89, college: UTEP) did not help to save the game for Oita Heat Devils. Guard Taishiro Shimizu (183-81) added 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Niigata Albirex have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 17-7 record having just -4 points less than leader Akita NH which they share with defeated Oita Heat Devils. Oita Heat Devils at the other side keep the third place with ten games lost. They share the position with Hamamatsu P.. Niigata Albirex will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Oita Heat Devils will play on the road against the league's leader Akita Happinets and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
