Regular Season Round 17: Qingdao E. - Shandong FB 89-92 OT

Seventeenth-ranked Qingdao Eagles (3-14) used its home court advantage to challenge eleventh ranked Shandong Bulls (9-8). The visitors from Jinan managed to secure only three-point victory 92-89. However their fans expected much easier game. Qingdao Eagles were tied at the half and again at the end of regular time. But they could not keep up in overtime eventually losing that period 6-9. Shandong Bulls forced 22 Qingdao Eagles turnovers. Strangely Qingdao Eagles outrebounded Shandong Bulls 42-25 including a 27-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by Qingdao Eagles helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American-Ukrainian point guard Pooh Jeter (180-83, college: Portland) who scored 38 points (!!!) and 5 assists. International forward JingYu Li (198-91) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. Shandong Bulls' coach XiaoBin Gong allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American-Puerto Rican center Peter Ramos (222-85) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 18 rebounds and Palestinian center Sani Sakakini (204-88) added 16 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Shandong Bulls moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Qingdao Eagles lost their third game in a row. They keep the seventeenth position with 14 games lost. Shandong Bulls' next round opponent will be Jiangsu Dragons (#12) in Nanjing which should be theoretically an easy game. Qingdao Eagles will play at home against Zhejiang Chouzhou Bank (#8) and hope to win that game.
