Regular Season Round 12: Umana VE - AV Cantu 84-79

An interesting game took place in Venezia where higher ranked Cantu (8-4) was upset on the court of tenth ranked Umana Venezia (6-6) 84-79 on Thursday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Cantu. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Cantu won fourth quarter 29-28. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Cantu 43-21 including a 19-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Umana Venezia looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Tony Easley (206-87, college: Murray St., agency: Pro One Sports) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the other American import swingman Donnell Taylor (198-82, college: UAB) who added 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Four Umana Venezia players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international Pietro Aradori (194-88) with 18 points and 5 assists and American guard Joe Ragland (182-89, college: Wichita St.) scored 24 points. Umana Venezia moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Cantu dropped to the second position with four games lost. Umana Venezia will face Trenkwalder RE (#7) in Reggio Emilia in the next round. Cantu will play at home against Sutor Montegranaro (#14) and hope to win that game.
