Regular Season Round 12: Zhejiang - Shanghai 86-62

The most important game in the last round took place in Hangzhou between third ranked Shanghai Octopus (9-3) and fifth ranked Zhejiang Far East (7-5) on Saturday night. Shanghai Octopus were crushed by Zhejiang Far East on the road 86-62. The game without a history. Zhejiang Far East led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Shanghai Octopus' 36. They outrebounded Shanghai Octopus 41-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Zhejiang Far East made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Brittney Griner (203-90, college: Baylor) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 17 rebounds and 7 blocks and center Jun Gao (188-87) who added 21 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international center Meiling Zeng (191-88) with 8 points and 7 rebounds and American center Sylvia Fowles (198-85, college: LSU) scored 9 points and 5 rebounds. Shanghai Octopus' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Zhejiang Far East maintains fifth position with 7-5 record. Shanghai Octopus at the other side keep the third place with three games lost. Zhejiang Far East are looking forward to face Bayi Kylin (#9) in Yinzhou in the next round. Shanghai Octopus will play at home against Qujing Yunnan (#10) and are hoping to win this game.
