Twelfth-ranked Maccabi Ashdod (2-10) gave a tough game to first ranked Hapoel Jerusalem (9-3) on Sunday. The visitors from Jerusalem managed to secure only two-point victory 87-85. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 87-85. Hapoel Jerusalem made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Maccabi Ashdod helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Yotam Halperin (196-84) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 9 assists and American Josh Duncan (203-86) who added 18 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American Xavier Silas (196-88, college: N.Illinois) with 21 points and his fellow American import Marcus Dove (206-85, college: Oklahoma St.) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Hapoel Jerusalem have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 9-3 record. Maccabi Ashdod lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with ten games lost. Hapoel Jerusalem are looking forward to face Bnei Hasharon (#8) in Hod Hasharon in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Maccabi Ashdod will play on the road against GreenTops Netanya (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
