Regular Season Round 14: Matera - Agrigento 78-83

The biggest surprise of round 14 in DNA Silver was guest Agrigento's (9-5) road victory over Matera (#4) 83-78 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Matera. Matera was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Kwame Vaughn (190-90, college: CS Fullerton) who scored 34 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). point guard Alessandro Piazza (174-87) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Four Agrigento players scored in double figures. American forward Kyle Austin (203-88, college: Cal-Riverside) produced 29 points and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Anthony Jones (191-84, college: Indiana Tech) added 23 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Agrigento moved-up to second place, which they share with Ravenna. Matera at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Agrigento is looking forward to face P.Mantovana (#10) in Mirandola in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Matera will play on the road against Casalpusterlengo (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
