Regular Season Round 27: Shimane SM - Iwate Big Bulls 71-86

Very expected game when 10th ranked Shimane Magic (5-19) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Iwate Big Bulls (15-7) 86-71 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Iwate Big Bulls. Shimane Magic was better in second period 14-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Iwate Big Bulls dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Shimane Magic's 44. They outrebounded Shimane Magic 45-34 including 31 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American forward Lawrence Blackledge (206-86, college: Marquette) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 9 rebounds. Kenichi Takahashi (181-80) helped adding 13 points and 8 assists. Blackledge attended previously one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball. Five Iwate Big Bulls players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American center Jeral Davis (216-84) with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import power forward LaShawn Malloy (209-84, college: New Orleans) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Iwate Big Bulls have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Shinshu BW. Shimane Magic lost third consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 19 games lost. Iwate Big Bulls will have a break next round. Shimane Magic will play on the road against Fukuoka Rizing (#7) and hope to win that game.
