Very expected game when 9th ranked Levice (3-17) was defeated at home by second ranked Nitra (14-5) 91-78 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 13 points. Nitra looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Croatian guard Sven Smajlagic (190-90) fired 37 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds for the winners. American guard Patrick Sparks (184-83, college: Kentucky, agency: Hart Sports Mngm) chipped in 23 points and 9 assists. Nitra's coach Lubomir Urban used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American center Elijah Obade (206-91, college: Millersville) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds and international power forward Maurizio Galata (203-92) added 22 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Levice players scored in double figures. Nitra have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 14-5 record having four points less than leader Inter Bratislava. Levice lost eighth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with 17 games lost. Nitra will meet at home SKP Banska Bystrica (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Levice will play against Handlova and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
