Regular Season Round 12: Tigers - Taipans 76-66

Date: January 5, 2014
The game between closely ranked teams ended with one of their biggest challengers Cairns Taipans' (6-9) road loss to third ranked Melbourne Tigers (10-6) 66-76 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 45-32 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Chris Goulding (192-88) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and the former international forward Mark Worthington (203-83, college: Metro St.) who added 11 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Melbourne Tigers players scored in double figures. Melbourne Tigers' coach Chris Anstey used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American point guard Jamar Wilson (185-84, college: Albany) with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international power forward Matthew Burston (211-82) scored 11 points and 9 rebounds. Melbourne Tigers have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 10-6 record having just one points less than leader Wildcats. Loser Cairns Taipans keep the fourth place with nine games lost. Melbourne Tigers will face New Zealand Breakers (#7) in Auckland in the next round. Cairns Taipans will play at home against Wollongong Hawks and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
