Regular Season Round 14: Maccabi Haifa - Maccabi T-A 71-79

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Haifa. Third ranked Maccabi T-A faced 4th placed Maccabi Haifa. Guests from Tel-Aviv (9-4) defeated host Maccabi Haifa (8-6) 79-71. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Maccabi Haifa. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Maccabi Haifa won third quarter 29-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi T-A looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American swingman Devin Smith (196-83, college: Virginia) fired 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. International center Alex Tyus (203-88, college: Florida) chipped in 11 points and 9 rebounds. Maccabi T-A's coach David Blatt used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (200-83, college: SE Illinois JC) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and American forward Brian Randle (203-85) added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Maccabi T-A have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Hapoel T-A. Defending champion Maccabi Haifa keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Maccabi T-A is looking forward to face Ironi Nes-Ziona (#5) in Nes Ziyona in the next round. Maccabi Haifa will play on the road against Maccabi Ashdod and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
