Regular Season Round 13: Calgary - UNBC 77-52
Date: January 9, 2014
Rather predictable result in Exshaw where third ranked Calgary (9-2) smashed 5th ranked Timberwolves (4-7) 77-52 on Thursday. The game without a history. Calgary led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Calgary forced 28 Timberwolves turnovers. Timberwolves were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Australian guard Ashley Hirons (175) stepped up and scored 16 points and 4 steals for the winners and British point guard Kristie Sheils (173-91) chipped in 9 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side point guard Mercedes Van Koughnett (165) responded with 22 points and 6 rebounds and forward Japrit Nijjar (186) scored 8 points and 5 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Calgary. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Saskatchewan and Alberta. Loser Timberwolves dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
