Regular Season Round 13: Tigers - Breakers 87-93

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Melbourne Tigers (10-7) against seventh ranked New Zealand Breakers (6-10) on Friday night. Host Melbourne Tigers were defeated by New Zealand Breakers in a tough game in Melbourne 87-93. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Melbourne Tigers. The guests trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 30-22 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Fijian-New Zealand forward Mika Vukona (198-82) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and New Zealand swingman Thomas Abercrombie (198-87, college: Washington St., agency: Priority Sports) chipped in 21 points. At the losing side the former international forward Mark Worthington (203-83, college: Metro St.) responded with 23 points and the former international guard Chris Goulding (192-88) scored 23 points. Five New Zealand Breakers and four Melbourne Tigers players scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Taipans. Loser Melbourne Tigers keep the third position with seven games lost. New Zealand Breakers will meet league's leader Perth Wildcats on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Melbourne Tigers will play against Kings in Sydney and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
